As many of you know, Karole Woodthorpe, a 49-year-old mum of three, was diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this year. It's a cancer known as triple negative breast cancer, and is now in her lungs, liver, kidney, adrenal glands and bones. Karole was told by doctors she had just months to live, and refusing to accept this, friends and family launched a fundraising campaign to send her to Germany for life-saving treatment. In a little over two months, we have raised more than £80,000 and Karole has had her first visit to Germany - a consultation at the cost of £8,000 - which shows just how expensive it is. The first fundraising page for Karole has now expired, and rather than extending it and keeping it going we have decided to start a new one. While the page is running, funds are not accessible, and with Karole's treatment getting underway she and her family need the cash to hand, as I am sure you will understand. Treatment wise, the Hallwang Clinic has recommended Karole keep going with her chemotherapy here in the UK for as long as it makes a difference. While she is doing that, she will need regular trips to the clinic to 'prepare' her body for immunotherapy. This basically involves some clever scientific cell/tumour marker treatment that is a bit difficult to explain. As soon as the chemotherapy stops working, she will then begin a combined immunotherapy and chemotherapy plan, possibly with a few extras, depending on what the consultant believes will be the best option.
Either way, this is going to come at a considerable cost so it is vital we keep fundraising.You have been incredible so far, and Karole's loved ones cannot thank you all enough.
