Story
Setting up this page has been emotionally draining. My best friend Kelly Maybury, who is now 36 never likes to trouble anyone or ask for help, but she is now left with no choice.
She was first diagnosed with Cervical Cancer in 2013 and took all the treatment offered, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormonal therapy. Only to be hit with the blow last year in 2016 that the Cervical Cancer had spread to her Lungs and now her Kidney. The words you never want to hear “No longer curable, just treatable” were spoken and her world came tumbling down.
After 3 different cycles of chemotherapy, yet the disease is still progressing, she is in desperate need for the drug known as “Avastin” which will help to prolong her life and keep her alive long enough to see her 2 children grow up.
This drug is very expensive, so Kelly’s consultant made an application for “Independent Patient Funding Request”. This week Kelly received a letter stating that the health board panel decided that Kelly WAS NOT exceptional enough….. The cost of each cycle of Avastin would be £3,800 inc VAT and this would place a financial burden on the Health Board. How someone can decide this and put it in writing leaves me in disbelief. How can they put a price on life?????? This treatment can make a huge difference to her life, as it cuts off the blood supply and oxygen to the tumours, therefore stopping the spread and in some cases shrinking the tumours. This is her only hope.
Her friends and community have pulled together to raise funds in many different ways. Brian Preece from Maesteg has offered to combine his Worlds 24 Hour Solo Mountain Bike Challenge in Italy in June as a means of raising money for Kelly’s appeal.
This is where I ask for your help 🙏 Kelly will have to go private and fund the treatment herself. This treatment costs in the region of £76,000 If you can donate anything at all, no matter how small, it will help her buy precious time with her husband and 2 childre

7 years agoFollowing a very sucessful meeting tonight to discuss the fundraising calender, it has been decided that all money raised from different events, organisations, businessess and just purely kind people, will be added to this just giving page. This will be our main source of contact for everyone to see how much money is being raised, who has donated and raised the money and how our target is climbing. Therefore, We have changed the goal to £75,000 , as we think this is definately achievable for Kelly to have her 15 mths of "Avastin" treatment
