    Story

Well we're doing it again, and by it I mean embarking on the crazy task of running from London to Cardiff.

Yes, apparently I just don't learn and have taken up the challenge again with the Chariots on Fire. A few new faces this year but hopefully with what we learned last year we should be able to beat last year's time. For those not familiar with the event it is a relay race from Twickenham to Cardiff Park split into stages of anything from about 3 miles to the mighty 12.5 miler while trying to navigate at night by head torch wondering when will this hill end

We did a fantastic job last year in raising money for Children with Cancer and have decided this year run on behalf of two very worthy causes. The Sick Children's Trust who run housing centres to allow families to stay close by to very poorly children in hospital. The run Acorn House at Addenbrooke's so I have a particular insight into their works and they offer an invaluable service to families at a very difficult time. In addition one of our new team members Liam has nominated the Melon Mission with whom he has volunteered before. These are a fantastic charity offering care and an education to some of Kenya's street children. For the children in their care in addition to giving them a valuable education which will one day hopefully allow then to break free of the struggle of life on the streets but also feed them, often the food the children get at the Melon Mission school will be the only meal they get without having to search waste dumps for whatever else they can find.

Seeing the money coming in was a great motivator for me last year and really helped me to push on when my legs felt like giving up and I'm sure the same will go for the rest of the team as we enter the final stages of our training and during the event so please show your generosity once again and help us get close to our target which will be evenly split between our two chosen charities

So today is the first day I've been able to tackle stairs without my hips hurting, I guess that's what tackling 19 miles over a day will do to a relatively inexperienced runner like me Just wanted to say a massive thank you to the team who came from so many sources, many of whom only knew one or two other members if at all at the start of the event but we had such a strong team spirit throughout it really helped us to keep going. Still time to get your donations in if you hadn't got around to it yet. Thanks to everyone that already has

This is what 9 miles uphill on the Ridgeway does to you. Pic 1 was me after stage 2, 5 miles on the canal path, sun shining and a gentle breeze. My how different things feel in the darkness, up the seemingly endless inclines on uneven ground. I think I'll trade this stage in someone else next time 😰

Ok so things really hurt today. Thighs probably the worst but the rest of me is pretty bad too. All worth it though as I was so happy with our team. Everyone put in such a big effort, some more than they had planned after getting a little lost but that unfortunately is part of the fun with London Cardiff 24, following directions like "turn right by down hill by wood" then map reading while sleep deprived is asking for trouble and some of us found it. We stayed strong as a unit though kept our spirits up to arrive ahead of last year's time.

The kind of person clearly easily influenced by others. Why else would I lost Alex talk me into doing this crazy run to Cardiff, not once, but twice now.
