    Story

My name is Lauren Norcliffe and I am a student at Shelley College in Huddersfield. I am hoping to participate in an expedition to Kenya in 2018.
This will be a 4-week expedition and will include community development work, environmental projects and wildlife conservation. It will also include additional elements, for example, a scuba diving, a safari trip to see the Big 5, meeting the Maasai tribes and spending time with the inspiring Mamas of the local villages.

The core objectives of this expedition are to undertake projects to:
    • Raise the education and living standards of developing communities within a rural district of Kenya.
    • Delivery of educational supplies to local school.
    • Assist with ongoing wildlife conservation programmes to preserve biodiversity and protect vulnerable habitats.
This expedition is extremely important to me because I feel that I will acquire and develop many important life skills such as leadership, communication, team-building, independence and problem solving.
I will be interacting with local communities, experiencing new cultures and languages, to gain a deeper understanding of how other people live.
For me to be able to take part in this once in a life time experience, I intend to raise at least £5000, to cover the cost of the travel and accommodation, insurance, visa’s and excess luggage to allow me to take school supplies and clothing for the projects. To achieve this I will be carrying out several fund-raising activities, sponsored events and sales as well as asking businesses and community groups for sponsorship.
I am really looking forward to getting involved in the community projects and learning how people in Kenya live, I also can’t wait to learn their language and hopefully, teach them some English as well. I would be extremely grateful for any contributions you would be able make towards my fundraising.

    “Asanteni” (Thank you)
