Lesvos 2017 is a humanitarian aid project run jointly by members of Muslim Community Relations - Nuneaton (MCR-N) and Raunds Community Church in Raunds, near Kettering, Northhants. The aim is for a group of volunteers from these two organisations to travel to the Greek island of Lesvos to provide help, and relief to refugees from Syria and other war-torn regions.

The trip will take place in early May 2017 and this will be the second year in which this joint project has taken place. Last year the experience was both harrowing and moving and made us all determined to go back as soon as possible.

On this page we hope to raise funds that will be used to help provide, food, clothes, medical aid and any other necessities to the refugees currently on the island. As we are travelling to the island in person, we will be able to find out first hand what is needed and then use the raised funds to help provide it. Any leftover funds will be distributed among the established charities who work on the island all year round.

In addition, our volunteers will offer their services in person to help the local charities in any ways they require. This will include physical, medical, educational and other work within the refugee camps, including helping children and vulnerable individuals, during the day, and joining the shore patrols during the night, watching-out for, and helping to land, boats and providing immediate assistance to the refugees, many of whom will be sick or traumatised.

Our volunteers can exhibit a wide range of useful skills which we intend to put to good use for this important and urgent cause

Be assured that all funds raised will go directly to the refugees and charities on the island. All travel, accomodation, food etc costs will be bourne by the volunteers themselves.
