So I've been setting up a fundraiser for a family who contacted my yesterday. They are trying to buy a house to get out of an awful area and it is so difficult because of how poor they are. The husband is injured and cannot work, and his wife cannot work because she has to care for him. They are on very little and after paying the bills, there's barely anything left for food so they have to rely on friends to help them.
I was heartbroken by her story because the firm doing the legal work won't help them, they just want their money and they want it now, and whilst that is the case for every business and company, it never makes it right particularly when we all know there are people in poverty and people who need help.
What I'm doing isn't making people pay money to others for something they apparently should do themselves, it's acknowledging the fact that a lot of us are more privileged than others. We've not gone weeks without a proper meal, we have steady paying jobs, we have a healthy family and we also have opportunities to help those less fortunate, reaching out to help fellow human beings.
It's true I don't expect a lot of support from this because people are so used to saying 'that's life' and to get on with it, but having fellow human beings in poverty shouldn't be life. Having them suffer at the hands of wealthy businesses shouldn't be normal.
So please, if you want to help this family and ease the strain of poverty, I would be most most grateful. I would give all the money myself if I could but I'm unable to at this moment in time, and that is why I'm asking for support, to help a family who really touched my heart.
