Michelle has amazingly been selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the World Transplant Games being held in Perth, Australia in April 2023.
She will be competing in track events and competitors are responsible for raising their own funds to be able to attend.

Michelle is a huge inspiration, and her message is important to many. Due to this I ask that if you are able to donate then please do and also consider signing up as a Donor and have that conversation with friends and family.

Unfortunately for Michelle she became very ill and after lots of tests specialists
eventually realised it was her liver that wasn’t working. She went down hill very
quickly and was informed she would need a transplant. Mrs Mitchell weighed just
5 stone, had yellow skin and her eyesight was deteriorating before her operation.
In 2014 Addenbrookes Hospital found a donor match and the operation was a
total success.

Michelle explains “I know I was lucky; I would have died if a donor liver hadn’t become
available in time. I am embracing life now, and through sport I am showing people
that a woman in her early 60s with a transplant can still compete at a high level.
For me it isn’t about showing off my medals, its about raising awareness and
showing there is a life after a transplant.

I want to raise awareness because people are dying, just waiting for a transplant.
Being a donor means you are able to save or transform the life of someone else.”
