Mikey is in Year 6 at school and has been undergoing treatment for an especially aggressive and rare type of brain tumour which was diagnosed in the summer 2015. Mikey’s story was told by the BBC as part of their ‘Big C and Me’ documentary about life with cancer which was aired last spring.

Over the course of the last year, Mikey has had several chemotherapy sessions, 3 operations and a course of radiotherapy. In between treatments, when well enough, Mikey came to school and he has enjoyed being back with his friends.

Unfortunately, recent scans have shown that the treatment has not been successful and Mikey, his parents and all his brothers and sisters are coming to terms with the devastating news that he isn’t going to get better and that there is no cure.

The medical team are giving him chemotherapy treatment he can have at home. It is hoped that it will delay the progress of the tumour so that Mikey and his family can build up some good memories together.
