    Story

The Mongol rally is one of the most challenging and rewarding rallies on the planet.

It involves a 10,000-mile drive across some of the most challenging environments in the world, from negotiating the Mongolian steppes, driving across the Gobi Desert, and fighting through traffic in central London! All this is done in an old cheap car with an engine smaller than 1.2 litres, with no support and only your own abilities to tackle whatever problems arise.

Ward 6, also known as Ynysdawel ward is a specialist palliative care ward based in Ysbyty Cwm Cynon in South Wales.
Palliative care is an approach which focuses on ones’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs. The goal of palliative care is to preserve the best possible quality of life until death, by preventing and relieving distressing symptoms, such as pain and anxiety which sadly often accompany serious illnesses. It encourages patients and families to co-ordinate care, and plan for the future. This approach is utilised both for people at the end of their life and also those living with chronic, long term health conditions.

This Summer, Neil Johnson was a patient on Ynysdawel Ward. The care given to him was exceptional, and the support to the family was tremendous. Every member of staff made a difference to the quality of his care, and the welcome given each time we went on to the ward was always comforting, encouraging, and genuine. The money raised for the ward will allow more people to experience the exceptional quality of care at Ynysdawel, and may be used to purchase more equipment for the ward.

Cool Earth are an environmentally focused charity which aims to prevent the destruction of rainforests around the world by supporting those displaced by rainforest destruction. With 32 million acres of rainforest being lost every year, the impact on climate change, local biospheres and the livelihoods of tens of thousands of people are severely under threat.
