Weʼve raised £295 to replace a vandalised Defibrillator at Mossley

    Mossley, United Kingdom
Funded on Tuesday, 28th February 2017

    Story

On Wednesday 28 December, a mindless act of vandalism saw Mossley's only Public Access Defibrillator destroyed.

The Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) was originally funded and installed as a result of a Bequest from Bernard Murphy - a volunteer Community First Responder and contributions from the Community and Rotary.

We are fundraising as we believe that the people of Mossley should not be put at risk by the actions of a mindless few.

An AED is a vital piece of live saving equipment in the case of sudden Cardiac Arrest, a medical emergency where the heart stops beating normally. Use of the AED with CPR is the only thing that can help the heart to start beating normally. The sooner that an AED is used, the better the chance of survival.

The funds raised will be used to pay for the replacement of the AED, Case and Installation. Any excess will remain within the Mossley community promote AEDs and to pay for AED familiarisation courses and training.

About me. I am a volunteer Community First Responder (CFR) trained and mobilised by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) to attend Cardiac Arrests and other life threatening emergencies within my community. In the case of Cardiac Arrest, seconds really matter and being on call within my community can and does help to save lives. I was originally inspired by Bernard to volunteer for NWAS. I know from first hand how early use of an AED can help saves lives.

Thank you for your support. We are making progress in being able to reinstall this life saving equipment very soon. I will be hosting a number of Defib Familiarisation sessions and any remaining funds will help to support this and other awareness activities. The next session is at Yorkshire Ward Conservative Club on 7th February. Tickets are free but they must be prebooked via the Eventbrite link. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/mossley-defib-familarisation-tickets-31141299465

Fantastic news, we have had an offer from Manchester Medical Service's Dave Mylett offers to replace vandalised AED. We just need to keep going to cover the case. Remember any excess funds will stay in the Mossley community to cover training, awareness and familiarisation sessions.
