Moving Together have been given an incredible opportunity to travel to Ahmedabad to provide a dance project for children and the local community in the Ramapir No Tekro slum.

In order to financially support this project we will be aiming to raise £500 by dancing with 500 people in 5 days! During the 5th - 9th December we will be teaching a Bollywood inspired piece to all of our current groups (as well as some new participants!) and creating a film so we can take it with us to India!

Led by Emily Bolton and Sophie Hocking, the team will also consist of current DMU Dance students and staff, and members of the Square Mile team. The project will work with children and young people from the Gandhi Ashram to experience a wide variety of dance styles, develop their creativity and in turn will support their confidence and self-esteem. We will also be working with older members of the community inspired by our over 55s programmes delivered here in England. At the end of the week long programme there will be a celebration of achievements and a showcase for the whole community to enjoy.

This project forms part of the DMU Global opportunities made available to De Montfort University students through DMU Square Mile - a long standing partner of our organisation. As part of our work with Square Mile in Leicester we have given over 1,500 children and young people the chance to achieve their Arts Award qualification and experience creative dance in the past 5 years.

We're extremely excited to be travelling to India to deliver our project in early January 2017!
