I have a pupil in my school who is desperate to become a British citizen. He is 17 and Polish by birth. He came to Scotland when he was very little and considers this his country.

His one and only ambition is to join the British Army but is block because of his citizenship status. He is very clear in this ambition and this has never wavered throughout fourth, fifth and now sixth year. He is a dedicated student with Higher Grades and is studying three Highers this year too. The army are keen to have him and he has a real chance at a graduate level apprenticeship and possibly officer training.

His parents have made the decision to return to Poland in the summer and he wants to remain here, he sees Poland as a foreign country now. He is terrified if he returns with them Brexit will prevent him from returning and also if he doesn't achieve citizenship now it will be much costlier and longer when he turns 18.

I have his parents written consent that they support him in all these endeavors and his parents have been saving hard but he is £800 short of what he needs.

I have my Head teachers approval for making this plea. I have exhausted all avenues to seek a grant and am trying this to help him
