Story
This is our dad Graham Young, he is only 58 year old.
He was a dedicated body builder. A carpenter by trade and he loved to socialise and talk to anyone and everyone.
On the 21st July 2016 his whole life changed and our world felt like it was falling apart. He had suffered a major stroke effecting 2/3's of the left side of his brain. Causing him to lose the use of the whole right side of his body. He also lost the ability to speak. He was unable to drink or eat as this can cause fluid on the lungs.
24hrs after dad had his stroke we were told the devastating news that he now had swelling of the brain and the next 5 to 10 days were critical. After 5 days we are told that the swelling is still there and is pushing the effected left side of the brain towards the good right side of the brain and they may have to remove his skull to relieve the pressure. During this time dad is having test after test, around 3-4 CT scans per day. We meet with consultants and they tell us he isn't out of the woods yet the next 5 days are also critical. We are also told that not only is the blood clot which caused the stroke is still in dads main artery in his neck and has formed a plug which is too dangerous to remove.
He has also developed a second blood clot in the lung called a PE (Pulmonary Embolism). The 10 days are up and we are told the amazing news that dad is now out of the critical zone. Dad is still in hospital the Homerton RNRU.
We would like to raise funds so our dad can still get the physio and speech therapy that he still needs. As he is still unable to speak or use the right side of his body. We would also like to raise funds for a specially made wheelchair to meet dads needs. Its highly likely we will need to raise funds to support dads stay in the care home he goes to when he leaves hospital.
We would like to thanks everyone in advance for any donations received.
Yours Gratefully Cassie, Donna & Ross xxx
