We are establishing the RCEM Foundation. This is a fund set up by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine to advance education and research in Emergency Medicine. Emergency Medicine is the branch of medicine practised in Emergency Departments (A&E) in the NHS in the UK and across the world.

We already out of our existing operations provide grants for research in Emergency Medicine and we want to do much more. We have established professorships and sponsored PhD students but there is so much more we can do if we have access to more resources.

We also want to help those in other countries who are trying to establish Emergency Departments in their hospitals. We have in our membership 6,000 emergency physicians and we can draw on them to train, advise and help set up emergency departments in other countries. We already have among our number some physicians doing that on a voluntary basis and we want to grow and develop this.

We additionally want to help those who are financially disadvantaged consider a career in Emergency Medicine so hope to fund bursaries. We want to further develop our existing physicians and get more of them involved in scientific research.
