Lagan Search and Rescue are an acute water rescue and independent lifeboat service, dedicated to the seaward side of the River Lagan in Belfast and its immediate environment.

What Lagan Search and Rescue do:

Provide a dedicated emergency response in agreement with Her Majesty's Coastguard, working partners and key stakeholders - tasked and co-ordinated by the local Coast Guard Operations Centre (CGOC Belfast). They also provide an independent lifeboat service and are trained and equipped to levels that exceed the nationally approved standards.

24/7 lifeboat response, 365 days of the year. This dedicated service can be tasked by pager, any time of the day or night.

Rescue Swimmer Corps - highly trained and committed, these volunteers can deploy from boat, bank, quayside or structure to assist those in times of distress. Rescue swimmers are trained to internationally recognised standards and were recently deployed to the Eastern Aegean Sea where they provided assistance to the Migrant Offshore Aid Station. During this mission, LSAR volunteers were involved in the rescue and recovery of 246 refugees who were in peril or who had been shipwrecked on the jagged shores of the Greek Islands. LSAR is due to send out more volunteers later this year to help with the rescue effort.
