I'm raising money to go to Sri Lanka for 8 weeks in summer 2017. I'll be working with SLV in partnership with Samutthana, the King's College London resource centre for trauma, displacement and mental health in Sri Lanka.
The main aim of Sumatthana is to train and support organisations and individuals to respond to the psycho-social needs of trauma sufferers i.e. tsunami survivors and those who have experienced civil conflict in Sri Lanka.
I'll be staying with a local family and working in a psychiatric facility and a rehabilitation centre, as well as running activities for people with special needs and teaching children and young people. If I don't raise enough money or for some reason can't go to Sri Lanka, I'll donate all of the money raised on this site to Young Minds.
I'll be doing a number of fundraising events as well as saving money that I earn this year to cover as much of the cost as I can. The first event is the RockSolid Milton Keynes 5K mud run on October 29th.
