On Saturday 12th November 2016, while away from home for filming of feature film Calibre, Sarah Cairncross collapsed in her caravan with a brain haemorrhage and was rushed to hospital. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Dumfries A&E and the amazing staff in the ICU at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh Sarah survived those first few days which were very uncertain. This shocking and unexpected event has taken everyone by surprise and it's only due to Sarah's strength of will and incredible resilience that she has made it through this far.

Sarah is now recuperating in a ward in Western General Hospital, conscious a lot of the time and able to speak but very weak. The hospital are keen to keep visitors to a minimum to avoid tiring her, so please check with her family if you want to visit - it may be better to do so at a later point in her recovery. It's expected that sometime in the new year Sarah will be able to be transferred to Astley Ainsley Hospital for three to six months of rehab before she will be able to think about going home.

We've set up this JustGiving page for her to try to finance an alternative source of income/occupation for Sarah in the future; it's unknown at this point whether she would be able (or indeed want to) return to life onset. Sarah has always painted and has long spoken of wanting to have a studio set up for her painting, as a guide for a target total we've used a years rent of a studio, materials to help set it up and some transport costs - anything you can give would be very welcome!
