To help raise money and raise awareness of our initiative to improve the overall facilities of Silverdale Social Centre, 2 coaches from Silverdale boxing club (Tim Thwaites and Dave Brookes) will be running the Potteries Marathon 2nd July. Along with 4 of our young boxers (Milo James, Zak Heeland, Alfie Brookes and Salvatore Ashdown) who will complete the Potteries marathon summer relay.

Silverdale boxing club is taking on a long term lease of Silverdale social centre from Jan 2017. The Social centre will continue to be used by the Silverdale boxing club as well as Bradwell and Penkhull table tennis Clubs, but we are looking for other clubs to use the facilities and make the centre a local hub for fitness in the area.

In partnership with Newcastle Council we are working to raise funding to modernise the centres facilities. The work has already begun, with the exterior of the building being fully repainted, roof and guttering repaired. The council has also committed to complete a full internal painting program by May this year. We still need to raise a significant amount of funding to refurbish the toilets and kitchen area. In addition, we are looking to install new flooring and a full mirrored wall in the large circuit room to make it suitable for other activities and clubs, such as dance or fitness clubs.

The Social Centre has been used by Silverdale Amateur Boxing Club since 1999, producing many talented boxers, but more importantly the club provides a place for young people to stay fit and healthy, while learning important life skills like self-confidence, strong work-ethic, sportsmanship and the ability to defend themselves.
