Weʼve raised £2,401 to fund a community based speed gun and training for the Southfields Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Funded on Monday, 6th March 2017

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

With the recently introduced 20 mph speed limits in some of our residential streets, and many more to come across the borough in the next year, the biggest concern my ward colleagues Kim Caddy, Terry Walsh and myself hear from people is "It's no use if it can't be enforced".

Our own Southfields Safer Neighbourhood Team of the Metropolitan Police applied for funding to buy a dedicated speed gun to use in Southfields, but were unfortunately unsuccessful.

When we found out that it would only cost a relatively modest £5000 to buy the gun and to train several people in it's use, we felt sure the community would consider it a worthwhile asset for all our safety and reassurance.

Living locally as well, we are only too aware of the inconsiderate few who speed down some of our narrow residential roads, putting lives at risk, especially the young and the elderly.

Having a dedicated speed gun and trained personnel would be a terrific community asset, which would be both a deterrent to those who thoughtlessly endanger us, and a useful reminder to us all of our responsibilities to the wider community.

With the number of households in our area, just a few pounds each would soon raise the funding needed to support our hard working local Police service in this worthwhile area.

Please help us if you can, every small donation will make a difference!

We are also exploring raising additional contributions by applying for any relevant funding grants available from the Council.

With many thanks in advance for your support - Together we can make it happen!

Cllrs Guy Humphries, Kim Caddy and Terry Walsh.

Hi supporters, just an update to say that I have been asked if donations will be refunded if we don't reach our full target - However much more we raise in the next few days we should have enough to deliver the project anyway, albeit with less for training, so all your donations will be used, even if we don't get the full target. Many thanks again for all the support and donations - it will make a difference! Donations can still be gratefully received for the project by contacting me directly, even after this crowd funding ends. Best, Guy

Out in Southfields today with Cllr Kim Caddy listening to our residents and promoting our speed gun fundraising campaign - lots of support already (many thanks to those who have donated!) but please help to spread the word - Only 1 month left to donate and help keep our roads safe!

It's a shame this has to be crowdfunded. Isn't the government supposed to ensure the law is followed? There doesn't seem to be a problem to slap fines on people for less dangerous things.
