Story

Post event update:

Thank you so much to everyone who has taken the time to make donations. Alex read from 06:00 am until 9:45 pm on Saturday 22nd June. He had two breaks of 15 minutes and apart from that, read continuously for almost 16 hours.. He successfully completed all four Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles.

Alex said “I would like to thank everybody for their incredible generosity. I have completed some difficult tasks over the years, such as aeroplane acrobatics, white water rafting and climbing Mount Snowden, however this event was totally different and challenging. I am so grateful for everybody who came along on the day to support me, listening to me reading or providing me with refreshments as required. I would also like to thank my wonderful wife for her patience, support and love throughout the planning and on the day itself. Finally, my sincere gratitude goes to my congregation, we are a close group of people and they have supported me throughout. I am okay today, apart from a sore throat”.

Its not too late to send money for this event and once again thanks to everyone for your support.

The Church of St Francis of Assisi sits within the community of Kew. It is a Church of England and Methodist Local Ecumenical Partnership. The Church congregation has been in existence for 37 years and the current building for 27 years. The vicar is Rev'd Alex Galbraith. Like most Churches funding the building is always difficult. This fundraising event is to try and bring in some well needed funds to ensure the future of the building and its congregation. The Church serves a large community and new members are always made very welcome.

Rev'd Galbraith is blind and has terminal Cancer. He has given a large proportion of his life to the Church and St Francis and his wish is that he can leave the Church financially sustainable for future generations. He intends to read the entire New Testament of the Bible, out loud in Church, using braille on Saturday 22nd June 2024, beginning at 6am. This is no small challenge as the New Testament contains 27 books.. One of the symptoms of Alex's Cancer is that his voice can be weak and he experiences tiredness, but he is putting this aside to try and ensure that this challenge raises the funds that the Church needs.

Please support Alex and the Church by donating to this event and remember, the Church is always there for you and you would be made very welcome to either to come and listen to parts of the reading or to join the congregation for a Sunday service each week at 10:30am.

Thank you.
