Story
"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." Frederick Douglas; after escaping slavery in Maryland, he became leader of the Abolitionist Movement, a renowned Statesman, a Writer and a Social Reformer.
The students of St Patrick's Primary School deserve a library that will inspire them to pick up a book and read, go on journeys they never thought possible and see places they have yet to visit. Learning to read is the key to unlocking a child's potential, for everything!.
The Library at St Patrick's is in need of a major update. It needs a makeover and the stock of books are old and need replenishing. The school Library needs to be the central hub of the school and students should be excited to go there. At the moment it is just a tired, uninspiring space with old books.
The aim is to fully redecorate the area and give it a fresh imaginative look. Having new furniture to relax and read and having new bookshelves. Most importantly, would be to purchase books for all ages and having series of books by authors where children can follow the journey fully.
In order to achieve this, it is estimated at costing £5,000. I'm sure you're aware that school budgets are declining and it is a struggle to raise money for projects like this. I have setup this funding page to see if we can raise 50% of this money, but it would be excellent if we could exceed that target.
As it is Christmas time, I know that money has to go a long way. But if you feel generous of spirit, and are looking for a good cause, can I urge you to donate what you can? If each family of a student in St Patrick's gave £10, we would instantly raise over £2,000. Feel free to forward the page onto friends and relatives through and the money we'll raise will inspire a new generation of readers!!
