My name is Ewa Claridge. I am a Midday Assistant at St. Thomas’ infants school. My twin boys (Thomas and Francis) are in Year 2. Recently, I went with colleagues from St. Thomas’ on a first aid training course run by Millie’s Trust. Millie's Trust was created by the parents of Millie Thompson who tragically passed away in a choking incident in her nursery school in October 2012. Its Charitable Aim is “The advancement of health and saving of lives by providing education and training in First Aid”.
The Resuscitation Council (UK) reports that 270 children per year die of sudden cardiac arrest in school. Early defibrillation can triple a person’s chances of survival should they suffer a cardiac arrest.
I would like to raise funds for two defibrillators (one for the infants school, one for junior school) with a view to these also being used as community public access defibrillators. I am aiming to raised £1600 which should be enough for two defibrillators. Any excess money raised will be used to buy additional first aid kit for the school.
