Weʼve raised £370 to help fund technology for people with brain injuries

Funded on Sunday, 19th March 2017

    Story

Corrinne (RSW) and the SLT team (Jan, Jac & Rachel) are going "sugar-free for February" to raise funds for technology we need. We will not eat any products with added sugar for the full month, and if we lapse we have to pay a self-imposed fine of £5 per item!

We work at Graham Anderson House (http://www.thedtgroup.org/brain-injury/our-services/graham-anderson-house/) which is a neurorehabilitation hospital for adults with acquired brain injuries. In order to help our Service Users to achieve the best outcomes they can, we need some new technology.

Our service users have a variety of difficulties resulting from their unexpected and life-changing brain injuries. We support them to: understand their difficulties; express their ideas, opinions and wishes in whatever way they are able; to relate well to others, whether loved ones, friends or carers; and to engage in meaningful social and vocational activities.

    Our wishlist:
Many of our service users struggle to understand how their behaviour impacts others. This can be a significant barrier to progress. Recording equipment like Go-Pro (£159.99) allow us to record and instantly play back situations, enabling service users to observe their behaviours and the consequences they have.

In order to deliver therapy that is up-to-date and accessible via new technology, we need new apps such as the 'Reading, Comprehension TherAppy' Apps (£23.99 each) and 'Scene and Heard' (£48.99).

And finally, our old laptop is too slow to allow us to access some of the software we already have; and our laminator melted just before Christmas!

We need your support. Make our sugar-cravings count!!!
