Some statistics for you; In 2013, 6,233 suicides were recorded in the UK for people aged 15 and older. Of these, 78% were male and 22% were female. This means that for every 5 suicides committed 4 of these were men. The number one cause of death for men aged under 35 is suicide. So how come when a recent survey was carried out the results said that 1 in 4 women are suffering compared to the 1 in 8 men at any one time. This can't be right though can it? what is the reason behind these numbers not adding up correctly? I believe it comes down to the society we live in. Men are not allowed to show their emotions and there is not enough help out there for those that do want help. This is something I know from a first hand experience. On the 28/10/16 I had enough of suffering and could only see one way out. Overdose. Luckily for me, after a few days in a coma and time spent in the ICU, I survived and was given a second chance. I want to take this chance to help other men. Nobody else should have to suffer like this. I would like to set up my own charity to help battle male depression, there would be a hotline and a drop in centre to start with for those who need help, want to chat and can't wait on the NHS waiting lists any longer.
