Our dearest friend Kalpna was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease around 16 months ago and we are starting this page to try and raise money for our dear friend as well as raise some awareness around MND. For anyone who doesn't know much about MND, it is a rare condition that progressively damages parts of the nervous system. This leads to muscle weakness, often with visible wasting that attacks the motor neurons or nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Our friend K was able to do all the things we all take for granted and now she struggles to eat and drink and needs to wear a neck brace due to muscle weakening. K is due to be admitted to hospital this week to have a feeding tube or Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) inserted into her stomach. K also needs assistance with bathing and dressing. My wife has been friends with K since primary school and they have both been there for each other and have supported each other through life’s milestones. This terrible condition has been extremely distressing not to mention life changing for K, her husband, her two children and those who know her. We cannot sit back and do nothing. We are raising a minimum of £3,500 towards the cost of a rear ground level extension. This will accommodate a bedroom, a wet room, utility area and some equipment. The MND Association has already provided a £3K MND Support Grant to cover towards the full budget of £16,500. The extension work has already started and K’s husband has left work temporarily to help the building work and to keep the cost down.
Your contribution would make a world of difference for K and her family. Money raised above the budget would be used to make adjustments to the house to cater for K's condition which is only going to get worse.
