Hi Everyone
I wanted to tell you about a special little girl. Our beautiful niece Etana, cousin to Kito and gorgeous daughter to Chris and Gracie Owaga, is a bright, loving 6 year old with a passion for life. She has an infectious smile, engaging personality and lights up a room when she enters. For those of you who know Lawrence and I, she was the cute little girl in pink at our wedding, dancing in front of the cameras, giggling and entertaining the crowd. Only two at the time, she was a show stopper even then. She has grown into an intelligent, captivating little girl, independent and strong minded. She is now the proud older sister of little Luca, born just over a year ago. This year she starts primary school. We know she is destined to be a leader.
In December she started showing some worrying symptoms, fainting, dizziness, unstable gait and numbness. She went to Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi and on new year's day 2017 we received the sad news that she had a brain stem tumour. Hers is a complex case requiring specialised treatment.She has begun the extremely difficult journey of radiotherapy and physio in Kenya to minimise the growth but the treaments available there are not sufficient. She will need to start a grueling but life-saving journey away from home. She has been referred for tomotherapy , cyber knife treatment and chemotherapy in India, care which is not covered by her family's medical insurance. The costs of this advanced treatment, and flights and accommodation in India for her and a family member comes close to $34,000. Anything you can give will be a stepping stone towards a bright future for her. With a mind and determination like hers, she will go far. Who knows what your contribution will make - a leading women's right lawyer? the first female Kenyan president? UN secretary general? She can't do it without you. I wanted to thank you all for your support and give you an update on Etana. With your help she was able to fly to India with her mum, and complete all the procedures. She returned home and the tumour has significantly reduced. She is much more active, able to maintain conversations and write again, and her gait is much more stable. She is still on medication and at the end of this month will return to India for some more treatment. Thank you all for giving her a new lease of life. I will update you as her treatment continues.

7 years agoHi! With only one more day left to make donations we are trying one last push to raise the final few £/$/KES to cover Etana's care. Thanks to all of you and donors on the other sites, enough was raised for the treatment in India and she is there right now and about half way through her courses of radio. It is amazing how generous everyone has been - thanks so much. We just need some more for her return and doc reviews back in Kenya. We have good news!From this site, gofundme.com and an MPESA account set up for Etana we have raised $15,000!! I am flabbergasted to say the least and overwhelmed by people's generosity. Etana and her mum will travel to India in the next week to embark on treatment. We still have some way to go though-another $5000 is needed to complete the therapy and for food and accomm. Pls spread the word.Even £10 helps-this covers food for a day. Thank you so much x

Across this site, gofundme.com and an MPESA account for the family $15000 has been raised! We are so overwhelmed with people's generosity.This means they now have enough to embark on treatment and Etana and her mum plan to travel to India within the next week or so. We are now quite there yet though- we need another $5000 or so to ensure she completes therapy and to cover food and accomm. Please spread the word! Thank you so much xx
