Story
I want to raise enough to cover the contribution required by York City council for a memorial bench in Rowntree's Park, to my father, Terry Walker, former York City Councillor. Terry was a community man. Everything he worked for when he was on the council, including the flood defenses and the barrier, he did for the benefit of the people of York. He loved his city, where he was born and grew up. He was a frequent visitor to Rowntree's park, especially in his more advanced years, when he was struggling with Parkinson's disease and walking became difficult. He often tottered down to the park from his home in Southbank Avenue, because he knew if he took a tumble, somebody would always be around to pick him up or call an ambulance! In more healthier times, whilst in office on the City Council, he was instrumental in saving the park from floods and closure, by pointing out that Rowntree's Park is not just a park but a war memorial. The council were then able to secure additional funding for its upkeep, so the people of York have been able to continue enjoying Rowntrees park, which has seem considerable improvements over the past 30 years. Terry died on 28th October 2015 aged 84. He was cremated at Bishopthorpe, and as yet there is no memorial in his name. We think a bench in Rowntrees Park would be a fitting memorial, which the people of York, including the many who knew and loved, him could use and enjoy in his memory.

I think this is a great idea and hope you reach your target." "I had many great trips to the Lakes with your dad and he treated me like an honorary son. He only ever got angry over ill-conceived development applications"
