    Story

There are 40 types of epilepsy, and 65 million people suffer from at least one of them...

In the West Midlands, one in ten people will suffer or already has suffered from epilepsy.

In most cases, the cause is unknown with lots of myths, misconceptions and misunderstandings.

The Voice for Epilepsy is organising a campaign to increase Epilepsy Awareness during National Epilepsy Week.

During the Campaign we are asking the Birmingham public to join the #WearPurpleCampaign by swapping their everyday clothes for purple attire - the international colour for epilepsy, with the colour of lavender which is often synonymous with the solitude and isolation felt by so many seizure victims.

Epilepsy can affect anyone, anytime, anyplace and can change people lives in a moment. The aim of #WearPurpleCampaign is to encourage people to talk about epilepsy and to remind those who live with seizures, that they are not alone.

We are asking the public to take part in fundraising activities such as cake sale, face painting, sponsored run, paint your nails, wear purple clothes, wigs etc where all proceeds will be re-invested into future projects to raise the awareness of Epilepsy.

On Wednesday, the 16th of May, our Councillors and the Lord Mayor will also wear purple and give speeches in the Victoria Square, where we'll release 1,000 balloons, offer photo engagements for social media and celebrate with hot food, dancers, and more.

Knowledge and awareness is the best way we can fight back against epilepsy as a loving community.
