This February I will be going to volunteer in Ghana!!!!!

I will help renovate a local school, medical centre and other local houses in Accra the capital of Ghana.

Below is a list of some of the tasks I will assist with:
- Repairing damaged/leaking roof's
- Ensuring windows and doors are watertight and secure
- Building any additional structures
- Digging and pouring concrete for water bore holes, ensuring clean water is widely available and accessible to the many people who live in the rural villages of Ghana.
Some Ghanaian locals collect their drinking water from dirty streams and rivers which can cause many waterborne diseases. Building clean safe water bores are a vital part to this project, along with purchasing water filters will make a HUGE difference to daily lives.

This will be my first time volunteering in Africa and I will be going with an awesome volunteering organisation called 'Original Volunteers' (Please check the link to see what other work they do - not just in Ghana but in many other countries too).

I am sure this experience will be extremely humbling and will be something I will never forget! I cannot begin to imagine how poor many of these rural villages in Ghana are and how they lack the most essential resources such as clean water. I believe everyone should be entitled to clean water, daily.

I strongly believe that if I was able to pass on my wide range of building/construction skills to even one person whilst on this project, it will be time well spent - enabling an individual to maintain or even renovate new projects long after I have left.
