    Story

    HELP ABDUL HELP LIBERIA!
Abdul has been accepted for an MA in Public Health at Nottingham Trent University. He's already raised over half of his fees through scholarship and sponsorship. He's nearly there!!
PLEASE HELP with anything you can!
Abdul is a 32 year old Liberian pharmacist who works for the Liberian Medicine and Health Products Regulatory Authority, ensuring that only quality and authentic medication enters Liberia.
Abdul is a role-model in his community, sponsoring 11 children, enabling them to get an education, as well as helping the community with medication.
For 6 years Abdul has also VOLUNTEERED as Country Director for the U.K. charity "Life For African Mothers", coordinating midwifery training programmes to reduce maternal mortality.
Abdul is well-known to the UK doctors and midwives who have volunteered for the charity. Anyone who has met Abdul knows what a selfless and caring person he is.
Abdul is passionate about his country and wants to improve the prospects of all citizens of Liberia.
Liberia is one of the poorest West African countries and faces many challenges. With a population of 4.2 million, Liberia continues to rebuild its health system, which was seriously weakened by the devastating civil wars (1989-2003) and the Ebola epidemic from 2014 to 2015 that saw the infrastructure destroyed and the loss of many of its health workers. More than half of the population live in poverty with one quarter living in extreme poverty. Liberia ranks 177 out of 188 countries on the Human Development Index.
Abdul, who plans to study an MA in Public Health at NTU says:
"On completion of the course in Public Health, I intend to work within the Liberian government in a policy making and management capacity to improve Liberian public health. I believe that the experience I will gain from the course will be invaluable and will enable me to contribute to the development of strategies to bring about positive changes for Liberia and its people."

Thank you! To everyone who has supported Abdul, together you raised £1110 towards the cost of his studies here in Nottingham. Although I've thanked most of you individually, there are some whose contact details I don't have. Abdul is really excited that he has this wonderful opportunity, but more than that, he has been really touched by the kindness and generosity of friends and of complete strangers who are prepared to help him fulfil his dream! I wanted you to know how important your help is to Abdul. Thanks again! Stella
