On October 11th 2016, I turned 16 years old. I never really ask for much for my birthday, but this year, I wanted to do something 'big'. As a teenage girl of Nigerian descent, I understand that there is a ridiculously negative stigma surrounding mental health issues in the African community. To help resolve this widely ignored problem, I decided to use my birthday as an opportunity to raise money for African and Caribbean Mental Health Services, a Manchester based charity that provides support for people of all ethnicities (but primarily Africans and Caribbeans) suffering from mental health problems. With the funds raised, they may be able to help more people across the country, and impact more lives.
