Story
HIV is still a major problem throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and results in so many orphans that their extended families are sometimes unable to cope. Bishop Matthew of South West Tanganyika (Tanzania) will be climbing Mount Kilimnajaro over 5 days in September to raise funds to build an orphanage in Sayuni. He is being sponsored within his Diocese.
I am attempting to mirror his challenge without the expense of travelling to Tanzania so that all money raised will go directly to support his cause. I am planning to climb Snowdon by five different routes over the same five days. This will be about the same distance as the climb of Kilimanjaro. The amount I hope to raise will be the equivalent of the cost of travel and the fees for climbing Kilimanjaro.

7 years agoIt's now a week since our friends reached the top of Kilimanjaro and we failed to summit on Snowdon. We reckoned their weather is better than ours. Still, we made it to the top 4 of 5 days and turning back when necessary is a good lesson, a good discipline. Two days after our day 5 summit, three persons were brought off Snowdon with hypothermia in the ongoing bad weather. We are thankful that all our participants in Snowdonia and our friends in Tanzania completed and returned safely. The total now is about £3,522 inc gift aid in different funds

7 years agoDay 4 was awful weather and we were turned back high on the south ridge in strong cross winds with one member soaked, cold and shivering, in danger of hypothermia. More abysmal weather on day 5. We changed route to the Miner's path and again one member of the team of 3 was in danger of hypothermia and turned back to descend the PYG track to Pen y Pass. Two of us reached Bwlch Plas where severe cross winds forced us off the path onto the railway track which we followed to the summit. Descent to Llanberis in 90 minutes to get out of the weather.
