    Story

    Jaunting for Jemma!

We are hoping to help our friend Jemma in raising enough funds for her to undergo a stem cell transplant by embarking on the trek of all trek's; The trek to Mount Everest's Base Camp!

Jemma was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 21 and has since tried lots of different ways to help ease the progression of it including full lifestyle changes, physiotherapy, and eating raw. Now 31, the MS is progressing and affecting her balance and mobility, making it difficult for her to live an independent life. She is hoping to raise a total of £55,000 for a stem cell transplant which can halt the disease in it's tracks. It can be a huge operation with some risk however she has considered it indepth and we are fully behind her all the way with it and hope to support her through our challenge!

    The challenge!

To help Jemma raise hospital fees, we are attempting to embark upon a rigorous trek through the Nepalese Himalayas to the base camp of the world's highest mountain: Mount Everest! It will be a physically and mentally challenging venture that will have us cover a distance of at least 130km throughout the trek, with an average trekking time of 7 hours per day over roughly 2 weeks. Our creaky knees are gonna love us for it!

Throughout the 2 weeks, we will gain an elevation of around 600-800m each day, reaching up to over 5500m in altitude, that's 18,000ft! The air at this altitude has less oxygen which can make trekking trickier as high altitude sickness is common so it's important to acclimatize slowly as you head up the mountain range.

We both enjoy little hikes in and around Scotland but have never done anything quite like this before so it will be a huge but hopefully rewarding challenge! Especially if we can help Jemma in raising some funds along the way to help access the life changing operation.

Please support us in this challenge through donation and sharing the fundraiser also! Together we can get Jemma to achieving her goal and help enable a better quality of living for such a fantastic soul!

We want to take a moment and thank every person that has donated. We really had no idea how many folks would support us with helping Jemma and we're pretty blown away with it all! It means a great deal to us to be able to help a pal in this way, and it means the world to her also so thank you from us and Jemma. We'll be closing the fundraising page shortly and passing donation onto Jemma, so if there is any last minute shares please do so now to help! From the bottom of our hearts AND the top of the world...Thank you so much. Jamie & Jodie

PART 1 UPDATE Hello everyone! As some of you follow us on our instagram Adventurebobbers, you will know that we made it to Everest Base Camp! On 11th May 2022, we finally made it to our destination after 13 days trekking in the rugged terrain of the Himalayan mountains. There were tears of joy and a huge sense of accomplishment - as we had completed the trek of a lifetime with no help from guides or porters to carry our stuff. We had a combined weight of 27kg on our backs and minimal navigation skills but we found our way...in one piece!

Hi folks! We want to say a huge thank you to all the donations and support from everyone so far, it's really appreciated and all going towards a great cause. We are due to fly out to Kathmandu, Nepal on 25th April (this Monday coming!) and from there we will sort out all the gear we need to do the trek and figure out the final route we will plan to take! Stay tuned! Jodie & Jamie xx
