    Story

The Palestinian Society for Care and Development is collecting funds for its annual Summer Camp for children at al-Amari Refugee Camp.

Lasting for 20 days from 8th July to 28th July 2017, the Summer Camp provides activities to 150 of the most socially marginalised children in the camp ranging from 8-15 years, including 50 children with disabilities for whom resources are more limited in day-to-day life.

The Summer Camp is a landmark time for children living in the refugee camp, allowing them to enjoy a range of activities such as:
    - Games
    - Language lessons
    - Handicrafts and art activities
    - Educational field trips to other cities and landmarks.

The money raised will contribute to:
    - Daily breakfast
    - Summer Camp uniform (caps, shirts)
    - Activity equipment (games, art, music)
    - Four trips out of the camp (swimming pools, archaeological sites, gardens).

Living in a refugee camp is stressful, so all of our activities give the children an exciting time to distract them from stress, provide psychological relief from anxieties that build up from day-to-day life, and build lasting friendships which are invaluable for their futures.

Integrating children with disabilities in recreational activities has an extremely positive effect on their development and quality of life, and on wider society by promoting acceptance and tolerance, sowing the seeds for their lives in the future.

A further benefit of the summer camp is that it temporarily alleviates some of the financial burdens on the families and improves the health of the children over this time. They are provided with breakfast every day at no charge and a chance to leave the confines of the refugee camp to go to exciting new places through field trips that raise their spirits.

We understand that the time limit is short for the funding of this project. Every person who works on this summer camp is a volunteer giving their time for the Society and is passionate about their work here.
