Story

Over the past 12 months I have been filming The Great Betrayal , we have over 60 hours of footage with some very compelling and harrowing interviews never seen before . I am now at the editing and pitch stage , so the good news is we have the makings of a powerful documentary .The final hurdle is the legal costs when we employ media lawyers to check over the material and give us the yes or no on the proposed content , this is standard practice in all forms of journalism . On my previous Crowd Funding page I raised £17.045 over a 12 month period and this has been used paying for the camera work and production of the documentary along with the many other costs involved and listed below . We now need the final push and I am asking for £15.000 so we can get The Greta Betrayal on air as without legal clearance its going to be an uphill struggle

I have employed the services of a solicitor with extensive experience as a media lawyer on film and television productions (for studios, broadcasters and production companies). On the film production side, in addition to script reads, he advises on rights acquisition issues, chain of title, E&O applications and production clearance issues and fair dealing. he also has considerable experience as a specialist media defence lawyer, in libel and privacy actions, contempt of court prosecutions and copyright infringement actions.

An outline of what has been involved in making The Great Betrayal over the past 12 months

There are many things you have to consider before embarking on TGB project,

Where do we wish to have it shown. Netflix, Amazon, DVD, or TV, and of course on what format are you shooting 1080 HD, or even 4K , all of this has an expense HD is what we need and that is the most expensive

The running time will also be a big topic of discussion.

All will have their own different proposals and of course their way own of making this documentary. I have done my best and believe that what has been achieved so

I needed a team of creative and experienced people to give this that something which is different from the normal every day style of documentary making.

Obviously much depends on the budget and that has been a real issue as we have limited funds between crowd funding and other donations I didn't reach the £50k goal

A big expense which is often not correctly budgeted for is the Archive and Stills. Obviously you can’t use YouTube so costing for the Archive and perhaps Getty Stills can mount up very quickly.

All will have to have the correct copywrite to be transmitted. The same applies about any Music which might be needed, this has become a major expense

I underestimated the costing of film crews. Some of the main interviews have required 2 cameras, to help in the editing if not for variable cutting styles.

Of course a sound recordist complete with mixer to help balance the mics would be essential.

This leads on to whom will be doing the interviews and VOs as well as any PTCs.. yet another expense !

The edit has also ended up with some hidden expenses. To have an edit suite and editor complete with enough storage for all your rushes and any other extra films can add up.

We are now into the legal expenses as every interview and all the content needs to be approved by expert media lawyers , I have some highly controversial material that has never been seen before

I hope this gives everyone an idea of the project this far

Kind Regards

Alan Barry

Credentials of the media lawyer I have employed extensive experience as a media lawyer has seen him advise on film and television productions (for studios, broadcasters and production companies), the ‘Big Five’ book publishers, local and national newspapers, scientific and academic journal publishers and the whole gamut of magazine publishers, including specialist industry titles, football and automotive titles, fashion, lifestyle celebrity and, during the ‘00s, the infamous ‘lads’ magazines.
