Story
If you know me personally, you'll probably be as shocked as I am to know that I've decided to knock something tough off my bucket list and sign up for my first (and most likely last!) marathon at the next Stirling marathon. Once the laughter died down after I broke the news to the first few people, they all asked who I was going to be gathering donations for. So I thought I would use this opportunity to research into local organisations and charities to decide who I would like to try and raise funds for. I was interested in helping out a local organisation who aren't in the spotlight as much as bigger charities, and Give A Greyhound A Home grabbed my attention more than anyone else.
Greyhounds are often brutally abused, abandoned and put down once they've been deemed "too old" for races. This is usually when they're around 3 years old. Perfectly healthy young dogs are being killed just because they're not able to win races.
"Give A Greyhound A Home (GAGAH) was established in 1999 with the sole aim of raising awareness about the plight of racing greyhounds and ex-working lurchers, and to save as many of these wonderful hounds as we can."
They're a completely non-profit organisation run by volunteers who do it solely for the purpose of helping dogs. Every penny donated to GAGAH goes to helping save the lives of abandoned and abused dogs, treating any injuries they've endured and nursing them back to health before finding them a truly suitable home.
Due to recent operations on the dogs they have in their care, they're currently struggling financially. A recent example of this are the 3 dogs who have come into their care who have all required major surgery, the average cost being £4,000 each. For a small local organisation based in Aberdeenshire, this was a large blow to their funds and they need all the help and donations they can get.
Please donate generously to such a worthy cause.

6 years agoHi all! Starting the year with a bang with marathon training. I've been pushing myself with quick paces and running some particularly hilly routes. Another benefit to pushing myself this hard is I've almost lost a stone since the start of the year - which is great for the motivation. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, but donations have slowed since the end of the year. GAGAH are such a worthy cause so please consider donating, any amount will help Thanks for everyone's well wishes too, I appreciate the words of encouragement! Cheers

7 years ago£260 in the first weekend of my page being open to donations - this is amazing! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. My first week of training is going well. Ive been trying to keep up weights as normal but I've also been running 5K's every second day to ease myself into intense cardio training and I've managed to take almost a full minute off per KM from the beginning to the end of the week. Ive got a long way to go but hopefully the good progress (in donations and performance) carries on into the next week! Thank you all.
