Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Good day. My name is Akinyomola Alexander Temitope, I am a Nigerian and currently an undergraduate student in my final year (500 Level) at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), studying Computer Science.
I am pleading with you to help me pay my tuition fees for my master degree programme in Advanced Computer Science with Big Data at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. I applied for this programme as a result of my application to a university-sponsored partial scholarship in March this year (2019) while I am still studying as an undergraduate in FUTA. The partial scholarship is from the same university (University of Strathclyde Faculty of Science Elite Scholarship, Africa). By His grace I was both granted the scholarship, worth £2,500 and an offer of admission from the University! I was then given details and instructions on how to secure my award by meeting my financial conditions, one of which is to pay a deposit of £2,000 as part of the tuition fees.
Since I have a scholarship award already, I demanded to use part of the fund to pay for the deposit but I was told that the scholarship is awarded as a tuition fee deduction. It cannot be used to pay for the deposit. Once I have paid my deposit and registered for the course, the scholarship value will be taken off of the tuition fee and I will still need to pay the remaining tuition fees. I was surprised to hear that as it was not indicated in the scholarship application form. But nonetheless, I have to progress with the registrations despite whatever challenge I may face.
To be frank, I cannot raise £2,000, which is about ₦1,000,000 in Nigerian naira, by sourcing from families and friends. I am the fifth child of my mom, who has raised all five of us by herself, through loans she got from banks and cooperative. I lost my dad in 2013 and I also lost the eldest of us to the cold hands of death in 2011 who could have help shouldered and reduce the weight my mom carries. I cannot wish she go deeper into debts which have not even been cleared.
I have tried several means but I could not find a new scholarship that would meet my current needs since I have been restricted to apply for any scholarship that will help finance my tuition. At this juncture, I honestly have nowhere to go but the time is ticking. This is the first time I will apply for study overseas and I cannot afford to miss such opportunity.
The tuition fee posted by the university is £17,350. But I will only need £5000 to cover the deposit, passport applications, travelling and settling costs. I plan to undertake a part-time job as soon as possible to cover the rest of the cost and upkeep as I advance with my studies. I am pleading for mercy at your hands to help me with fees. I’ll will appreciate any amount granted, I have not accumulated any amount as at this time of writing this document. The school resumes in September/October this year and I am of high hopes that everything will be fine before that time.
I plead with anyone who is capable of helping me as this is a turning point in my career and the decisions I make now will change my life. I plan to come back to Nigeria after my studies and use the new gained knowledge and practical skills to create wealth and combat problems facing the country, nay Africa, using Computer Science and Data Science. I also promise to give back to you or support you in your cause, if you are an organisation.
I can provide my personal statement which details my passion in Computer Science, some of my achievements and zeal to further more in my studies. So also is the letter of admission from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. If for any reasons you wish to see my Curriculum Vitae (CV) or any of my personal and academic documents, I will be happy to send them to you. I can even provide you with screenshots of the mail messages exchanged between me and the University admission unit so as to prove this is not a fraud and that I am writing and pleading for a true cause. I will provide proofs or screenshots to back up any claim I made about my admission or myself in this document.
Thanks for reading up to this point. I beg you to help me. School resumes on September 2019, so I will need to pay up before this time. I will be very appreciative if you help me. I will personally send you thank-you cards and messages and you will be notified about my progress into Strathclyde! Thank you!
