Story
Virginia (age 14), from the United Kingdom, has a strong passion for shark conservation.
Sharks, as top predators, play a vital role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems. By regulating species below them in the food chain, they help keep ocean life healthy and resilient. Without sharks, entire ecosystems can collapse — affecting biodiversity, fisheries, and even the health of our planet.
Yet, despite their importance, sharks are often misunderstood and feared.
Virginia is working to change that.
Through her project, she will raise awareness in her school by sharing a documentary featuring the work of Alex Hearn, a marine ecologist studying sharks in the Galápagos. Her aim is to shift the narrative around sharks — transforming fear into understanding and care — while also fundraising to support and continue his vital work.
This project is not just about learning — it is about inspiring action.
