Story

Ive set up this page to help a very brave little girl and her family. I‘ve known them for many years through dance teaching and general Mummy type stuff. They have been through such a hard time as a family and dont know what‘s ahead for their daughter.

Not once have they complained or asked for anything and have instead tried to raise money for the Ronald Mcdonald House who helped them during hospital stays. Dad even shaved his head to raise funds and make his little girl more comfortable.

They deserve a lovely family Xmas and some back up funds to help their daughter get through the next 6 months.

Their journey below!

Their beautiful little girl Bethany was born with frontal Orbital Advancement. (the front of her head protruded forward abnormally and many not hrow correctly. As a family they were adamant that they were not going to have any surgery on any cosmetic basis but decided to meet with surgeons so they could explain to Bethany when she was older that they had looked at every option and made informed choices for her.

Her lovely Mummy has written the rest:

We were referred to Birmingham children’s hospital where they said she needed the operation and it would have to be done within 6 months! There was a high chance of pressure on the brain which would lead to learning difficulties & behavioural problems. I asked the surgeon ‘if she was your daughter would do this?’ He replied simply ‘without a shadow of a doubt’

This left us with a difficult choice to make but knowing lack of surgery could impeed her development we had to go forward.

On October 31st we travelled to Birmingham late at night after saying goodbye to the rest of the family, the next morning we were waiting on the crani facial ward at 7am. Bethany was taken to theatre at 9.10 where they removed her front part of her skull, reshaped it and replaced it 7 hours later I was in recovery holding her hand. 2 days later with drains in her neck the bandages came off, they had to shave all her lovely blonde hair off so it was a BIG shock to see her. Her head was so swollen she couldn’t see us, instead she listened for her big brother when they played together in her hospital cot.

We stayed in Birmingham for 5 days until they were happy enough to let us come home, we stayed at the Ronald McDonald house which is really lucky because they don’t charge you for staying, but staying away and both being unpaid for the time off the operation and recovery has taken its toll.

Bethany has a skull of a new born baby with soft spots etc but she has the attitude & determination of a 2 year old who wants to climb everything in sight. We are hoping she won’t need anymore operations and there is no damage already caused but only time will tell.
