Story
My sister is lara Cowan and she has a 6 year old daughter called Lexie who loves so sing and dance. Lara was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in January 2016 and treatment started quickly. She fought a long and hard battle and throughout continued to work through it all so Lexie had as normal a life as possible despite how hard and tiring this was for lara. In October 2016 the treatment finished and all had gone well. Latas hair grew back and her beautiful long nails returned. Unfortunately fate had other plans and lara began to have face paralysis, speech problems, problems walking and eating and worst of all she went completely deaf in the space of 2 weeks and could no long hear her daughter laugh or sing and felt isolated inside her quiet head. Her health deteriorated and on the 10th December 2016 lara was admitted to hospital. Her health continued to deteriorate with severe pain in her head, back and legs and had to ger heavily medicated, she began hallucinating and her personality began to change. Glimmers of my sister would shine through with a hug or pat on my bum but gradually she had to be sedated as she was distressed. In the last 3 days I barely left her side except for a stretch of my legs or a breath of fresh air, she was my best friend and sister and I wouldn't see her alone. Her daughter saw her mum the day of her death and gave her kisses. Lara had held on to see the light of her life one more time. I told lara to let go that it was alright now and the afternoon of 21st December 2016 my sister passed away peacefully with me at her side. I couldn't save her mum but I want to help give Lexie what her mum would want for her and also donate in laras name to breast cancer awareness for all those still fighting this awful disease.

7 years agoWell life a few weeks on and I have to say doesn't get easier but Lexie is coping well although she has her moments as we all do. We miss Lara desperately but are trying to rebuild our daily life without her. Will look forward to taking Lexie to legoland when the weather improves and things have settled down. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far I really appreciate all of your support and I know Lara would too! Xx
