    Story

‪On the 18th March I will be running The Grizzly: 20 hilly, boggy, beachy miles, to raise money for The Project. This is a local organisation helping young people aged 13-24 who are experiencing mental health issues.‬

In the early years of my life, as for most of us, things were not always straightforward. I was lucky enough to have support from a few people who made all the difference in those tricky moments. Now as a busy working Mum and wife, running keeps me healthy in mind and body and quite honestly, some days it saves the day! Now I want to apply it to help others to access the kind of support I received as a young person.

‪Below you will find details of how The Project helps young people and their carers. Thank you for reading this and please give what you can, to help support a young person in our community.‬

Part of Action East ‪Part of Action East Devon, The Project currently delivers peer support groups in Axminster and Chard, helping young people across East Devon, South Somerset and West Dorset. However, the impact of its services has a greater reach, because of the positive effect on young people’s families, schools and friends.‬

‪The Project provides them with a safe, supportive environment in which they can meet others in similar situations, reducing feelings of isolation. During group sessions, it runs a variety of activities to develop tools and skills which young people can use in everyday life, helping them cope with the difficulties they face.‬

‪The Project also runs monthly support groups for parents and carers of young people with mental health issues. It also works closely with schools to educate young people about mental health. It delivers mental health training courses and workshops too. The Project’s mission is to support young people affected by mental health problems, raise mental health awareness and help reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.

The Project is part of Action East Devon, a Company Limited by Guarantee registered in England (number 07035905) and registered as a charity in England & Wales (number 1134611).

Completed the Exe to Axe 22 mile race! I've never climbed so many steps and hills. It was draining emotionally and physically; I confess I shed a tear at the end. My time was just over 5 hours (a bit less than the pic I forgot to press stop on my watch!!) A stunning route which I'll do again one day. I now feel I've earnt all your generous sponsorship. Thank you for the support, and for taking notice of The Project and the good work it does. The just giving page will remain open for a day or so. Thank you, it's a been a fabulous adventure!!

Well tomorrow is Exe to Axe! A bit nervous as training has not been straight forward! The weather looks good, the running gear is ready. Energy balls made! I am so grateful to all those who have sponsored and supported me and this brilliant charity. The Race starts at 10am, there is a 6 hour time limit......because I've had a dodgy calf I'm not setting myself a time goal and I am fully prepared that there is a possibility I may not finish but I will have had a go!! An update on how's it gone tomorrow evening!!

An amazing atmosphere at the Mini Grizzly! 1200 people on the start line, really wonderful marshals, beautiful scenery and everyone looking out for each other. Brilliant. An unforgettable run!! Training continues for the 22 mile Exe to Axe race, so I have 3 weeks to continue with a bit of fundraising. Todays run was wonderful, a run in the sun! Lets hope this weather lasts!! Please tell people about this charity and point them in my direction or to the just giving page. Thank you for the oodles of encouragement and generosity. 😘
