Sonny-beau is 11 months old born with hydrocephalus, Meningocele (spina bifida), fixed bilateral talipes and possible learning difficulties. Sonny was born via c-section on 18th August 2016. I didn't get to see him as he was rushed off to intensive care in an incubator along with my husband. At birth he went through a painful 2 hour operation to close his open spinal cord and try to mend his nerves. The nerves how ever have not recovered. Sonny is numb from the knees down.. After such a traumatic experience with what our new born son was going through we struggled to even speak to one another. We both blamed each other for the cause of sonny's condition. ! My world was falling apart bit by bit.He spent 3 months in Neonates and then to ITU for a few weeks. a meeting with the team we where Finally allowed home. 7days being home sonny started to deteriorate,rushed to the hospital where neurological surgeons was waiting.Sonny had multiple brain operations which he now has a VP shunt fitted to drain the fluid from his ventricles in his brain. He has had to have his shunt removed due to blockage&infection. The neurological surgeons decided to replace the whole shunt. 6weeks of casting his legs in different positions, followed by a operation on his Achilles' tendons both legs! casted for another 6weeks. He now has poinsetti boots&bars (forest Gump boots) he wears 23hours a day! 1hour a day in the monkey walking frame.Every Monday-Friday we are at some sort of appointment/therapy lesson for him.Due to his condition he is Catherised 10times per day &is on a number of medications to stabilise his condition &pain. He will eventually need to have bowel washes. I'm listed as sonny's full time carer so I can no longer work.believe me I wouldn't have time. There is a extremely grand disabled school in abercynon £2million was spent to build it a few years ago. Also with the most experienced medical neurological staff @Cardiff city hospital we cant miss this opportunity for him.
