PLEASE HELP US - BOWLS NEEDS TO BE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL!
South Park Bowls Club has spent the last few years reviving the sport in Darlington with much success.
The next step is to bring the equipment into the 21st century and ensure the sport is inclusive for all.
We aim to do this by purchasing:
Wheelchairs/Bowling Arms/Bowling Sticks and anything we can feasibly find that will give the opportunity for everyone to participate in the sport in some shape or form. See some examples on the below site:
https://www.disabilitybowlsengland.org.uk/clubs/equipment/
We also need to get families playing and there are children size/colourful equipment available that would make this possible. We have already shell-shocked the league by forcing through rule changes to allow smaller bowls in competition.
It is a national disgrace that our sport doesn't already provide sufficient inclusivity for all.
Our club is raising the bar on many projects to push the boundaries and aim to be leaders that encourage other clubs to follow our footsteps (and they already are in many of our ways).
Few clubs in Darlington (probably none) have aids that allow people of different abilities to take part. In this we include people who require assistance with movement or require a wheelchair. This also includes bringing families with children into the game. Although we invite all ages to the sport, and the game is changing to appeal to the younger bowler, the equipment to assist them is very expensive.
We work closely with the café now at South Park to make bowls public and have sets of old bowls for them to hire out, we have even purchased junior sized bowls for this year which will enable families to enjoy the game more, however it is all very much a bodge job and we want to provide equipment that mirrors the sports real potential.
PLEASE HELP US TO GIVE THE SPORT BACK TO THE PEOPLE OF DARLINGTON!
