On the 1st of April I am abseiling down the Leeds Beckett Portland building (10 stories high). I am raising money to help fund my trip to Sri Lanka where I will be working alongside 'Aspirations Education Foundation' volunteering among some of the poorest areas of the country.

“Aspirations Education Foundation” works under the objective to reach out and help to fulfill the aspirations of the people who are barely able to provide the basic needs for themselves and their families.

Sri Lanka has been scarred by a long and bitter civil war which arose from ethnic tensions between the Sinhalese and the Tamil. After more than 25 years of violence the conflict ended in May 2009. As a result, many of the countries towns and neighborhoods were badly affected and levels of poverty and lack of employment and education became a problem.

Aspirations Education Foundation run a service focusing on the schools in these poorer areas. Providing free English lessons and other teaching areas such as sport and IT development. They raise the money needed to keep the charity going and rely on volunteers to provide the teaching and expertise. When in Sri Lanka i will be teaching first aid to children and adults of the community which I hope could make a crucial difference where hygiene and basic medical needs are not met. In addition, I will be aiding the teaching of early years education and some sport development.

Throughout the year I am aiming to enter more charity events to raise money, including £100 of which will go straight to the charity to fund equipment and training.
