    Story

The past 6 months have been amazing for Ambionics . We've appeared in a featured CNN article , we've won multiple global awards and have even become finalists in the Inventor Prize . We're also making huge leaps in the development of our business model and our pre-production prototypes through Warwick University with support from Autodesk and RS Components . Our recent research proposal to Orthopaedics Research UK was approved by experts in the field. From the outside it may seem as though we have already made it but in reality we are not quite there... yet!

In truth if it had not been for the colossal amount of public support that we've received over the past year, Ambionics would not be here today. You are the reason we have come so far! With a bit more help we can REALLY begin to change the lives of thousands of young infants around the world, safely* and under medical supervision. We have now issued 5 prototype arms from scans that were taken at home. We are hearing great things back too in comparison to NHS issued prosthetics! The pattern seems to be that babies and toddlers prefer Ambionic arms to those supplied by the NHS. Children on our trial engage with them more freely and the fit is better. Parents report a 'suction fit' that inspires confidence. They also look amazing too!

    FUNDING TO DATE

Over the past 12 months we've raised £43,000 but need another £7,000 to trigger matched funding. In addition to the £5,000 grant we received from NESTA on the Inventor Prize we also raised £19,400 on our first Crowd fund and £14,800 in PayPal donations through our website (including a £3,200 contribution from Dragon Karate Cymru and £700 from Babinogion Menai). The rest of the money has come from family and friends and smaller events organised by local businesses

Sadly we are not eligible for funding through the various Welsh Government / Innovate UK Schemes that we have explored with our contacts there. This is because Ambionics is not yet an SME (Small to Medium Enterprise employing more than five people) - we are technically a Micro Company employing just one person - me.

Product designer Melissa Dall is volunteering for now but we'd obviously like that to be a full time paid role working in M-SParc. We also need to hire a technician and a part time admin assistant urgently but simply don't have the funding to cover it.

    FUTURE PLANS

Our plan is to get investment from the Development Bank of Wales who will then own part of Ambionics. We have been in talks for a while and they want to invest. However, because the Development Bank is a government organisation the investment we are looking for (an initial amount of £150,000) must be matched in part (70:30). This means we still need to find just over £6,290 to get to the £50,000 we need to match this offer.

As we've been peer reviewed we can now launch a crowd funding campaign on the Orthopaedic Research UK / FutSci platform. This is SPECIFICALLY designed for companies like Ambionics so we are really confident that we will smash the target of £6,900 That campaign goes live on May 1st 2018

As with any crowd fund though, successful campaigns are those which hit 30% of the target on launch day.

    10 K SPONSORED RUN

To help us nail it on launch day we have asked a group of runners to complete a sponsored 10 km run from Menai Bridge on Anglesey to the Science Park in Gaerwen (where Ambionics is now based - very symbolic!).

Several other events are being held around the UK so for security reasons we'd like the sponsorhip funds to be collected through Just Giving. We are proud to be transparent and visible in our fund raising efforts.

If you have a question or would like to sign up as a runner email info@ambionics.co.uk

Remember that EVERY POUND received in sponsorship will be TRIPLED when it is used to get match funding through the Development Bank of Wales.

    Thank you for your support!

Each runner will share a link to this campaign across their social media networks. To sponsor your runner just type their name in the comments..

Massive thanks to both teams of runners - both events went well and I am happy to see that we have smashed the target. We are also expecting some cash donations so this means we will get off to a great start on the ORUK crowd fund which has now been pushed back to Monday May 09. Wish us luck and feel free to follow on any of our media!

Thank you to the kind folk who have donated cash or made a PayPal donation!! We've lowered the target by £95 to reflect these transactions and this puts us at 60% funded. Please keep sharing our campaign so we can reach even more people! Thank you!!!
