Weʼre raising £7,200 to provide AMD-B guides and drivers with what would be £150/person/month for three months.
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
In December 2020, I set up a 4 month JustGiving campaign to raise £7,200. My goal was to provide AMD-B’s furloughed (at home without pay) dive guides and drivers with a small monthly income to help them with ‘Life’s Essentials’ (basic food, electricity, medicines, petrol, children’s school fees, building/roof repairs, and similar).
That campaign has now ended. The entire AMD-B team is deeply grateful to the 128 JustGiving donors and to those who sent to us directly. Thank you for the bottom of all our hearts :-)
However recent news shows that while some countries’ vaccination campaigns are going well, other countries have been forced to return to lockdown, and Bali remains closed to international visitors.
AMD-B has received some enquiries and even bookings but honestly, it’s far from covered our costs. So, we had to make difficult decisions – some worse than others actually.
Realistically, we acknowledged that to stay afloat, AMD-B needed to downsize.
We therefore tried to sell what would be ‘excess’ for a smaller AquaMarine: Dive gear, cylinders, office desks/chairs, computers, and so on. Of course, everyone in Bali is in the same situation so finding buyers has been tough.
We also sold some of our minibuses and our AquaMarine 3 boat is on the market. Our office staff is reduced by 50%; those remaining work half-time.
When international travel starts up again and we’re doing more than covering costs, we will put that money straight back into AMD-B to buy better, newer equipment.
Obviously the hardest decision by far was to send our dive guides and drivers home without pay.
AMD-B has continued to pay their health insurance and also their monthly government pension scheme contributions, however they have no actual income.
So I have created this second JustGiving campaign, again aiming to raise £7,200 to provide them with what would be £150/person/month for three months.
I do understand the world is going through tough times and that many of you are too. So this is me not asking people individually. This campaign provides a way for anyone who can, to assist the AMD-B dive guides and drivers that we all hold in such high esteem. You can also contact us for alternative ways to donate money.
Many of our guides and drivers have been with AMD-B for well over ten years (1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, etc) and have therefore significantly contributed to our growth and, of course, reputation.
The ongoing devastating effects on Bali’s economy caused by the total loss of international tourists due to COVID-19 continues to make international news.
Tens of thousands of businesses have closed permanently. I don’t know how many hundreds of thousands of people have lost their jobs in the past year. Often, in addition to close family, that one income supported several members in the extended family. Children simply cannot go to school, parents struggle to find ways to feed their family, medicines are unaffordable...
There is no government support for citizens or businesses.
100% of the money raised will go to AMD-B’s dive guides and drivers.
Please don’t think “… but my donation would be insignificant” - you cannot overestimate the difference even a small amount will make to a family here in Bali.
On behalf of the whole AMD-B Team: Thank you for your loyalty!
Stay safe, healthy, strong and happy!
Annabel and the entire AMD-B Team

It's been 20 years since we dived with you in Bali, but tourism is such an important part of so many economies, like Bali's, and we need businesses like yours to survive and provide jobs there
