As a 15 year old with autism it is really hard to live life like a normal teenager. i've been looking into getting a dog so i can train it to be an assistance dog with the help of a non profit charity.. Without someone being by my side i cannot perform daily tasks like shopping, eating in restaurants ect. I have a small dog called luna but she dosent fit the criteria to be an assistance dog. Without a dog by my side i cant do every day things like teenagers my age. with an assistance dog i would be able to lead a normal life. I want the freedom and independence other people have. living with autism is extremely difficult, i struggle socializing, going into public places and making friends. With a dog my life would change completely. walking a dog not only gives you both exercise but it all so lets you meet people, develop social skills and make new friends. I also need an assistance dog to calm me down in melt downs, disrupt self harm, alert to panic attacks.I have sensory issues that cause me to be overwhelmed by loud noises, bright lights and difficult situations. The feel of a dogs fur and the kisses they give you bring me round from an episode and ground me when i get overwhelmed. I will be going to college soon, i struggle to go to mainstream school and attend online schooling and a small unit a few days a month. I take my pet dog there to help me cope and it has improved my attendance and anxiety. Unfortunately my pet dog dose not fit the assistance dog criteria. Im trying to raise enough funds to help buy a Labrador as they make great assistance dogs ! i cannot afford to buy a Labrador thats why im asking members of the public to help me as much as they can. I was recently attacked by a group of 11 teenagers, I was walk past them with my friends when they brutally attacked me leaving me unconscious and bleeding. I now have no confidence as I’m terrified to leave my house in case I get attacked again. An assistance dog could provide me with freedom and courage that I once had. http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/16330637.benfleet-teenager-with-autism-is-attacked-by-gang-on-canvey/
