    Story

The Major of Merton, Sally Kenny, is raising funds for Merton and Morden Guild and Morden Little League during 2020/2021.

The Merton & Morden Guild is a Registered Charity which aims to offer activities to older people in the community. The Guild is at the heart of Merton. and is friendly place where older people get a warm welcome and meet people and make friends, keep active and mobile, get out and about and have fun,.

"I have lived in the local area for a number of years. I know King Georges Playing fields well, bringing my own children to play and enjoy the park. Now, as I walk Archie, my daughter’s black schnauzer, it had been wonderful to see the use of the park grow, with all generations using this facility for their pleasure, with people walking, running, picnicking and walking dogs. King Georges is also used for sport especially cricket and football; people socialising, enjoying themselves and keeping fit.

Talk a walk in King Georges on a Saturday morning and it is a thriving, friendly environment full of hundreds of children, boys and girls, gathering to play football. Anyone who wishes to play can and this is what I love to see: every child given the chance to take part in a team. This is why I sponsor a team; Kenny’s Knights, and I shall continue to do so for years to come. The value of enjoyment and feeling part of a community is vital to every child. Very many adults freely give of their time to make sure that this happens and that it will continue to happen for future generations.

As a result of all that I have seen in relation to Morden Little League I have chosen it as one of my charities during my Mayoral year. I am thrilled to do this and hope that together we can raise funds to help Morden Little League to continue and to grow and flourish."

    Sally Kenny, Mayor of Merton
