Story
There has been a parish church on this site for over 900 years, although the current building is largely from the 1800s. Sadly, like many parish churches, there is always work to be done, and it is now necessary to find over £200 000 in order to replace our roof. So Andrew and Mike, the two church organists, are planning to hold an organ-playing marathon (an “Organthon”) on Saturday 29th May 2021 to do their bit for the fundraising efforts. Mike will be playing the church organ, and Andrew will be playing a larger, hired, digital instrument (not the one in the picture unfortunately - that's Eton College). Over the course of 12 hours, starting at 9:00am, there will be music from many classical eras - hopefully you may even recognise some pieces - and lots and lots and lots of hymns. The event will be live-streamed so you will be able to listen in (or tune out) as you please. Each will be playing for about 90 minute stints, or until neither of them can take it anymore! Please do plan to make a donation to help them on their way, it would be very gratefully accepted; any amount will do but, of course, the more generous the better. We‘d obviously like to raise the full amount (!) but we’ve set our target at a more modest £10000. Do plan to look in from time-to-time on YouTube; just search for "St Leonard’s Church, SoL", or use this direct link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCciyZd5a37kMrgmLSACVkmQ
Mike will also be selling CDs of several of his choral and instrumental compositions, and all proceeds will go to the roof fund; contact him below for more information. If you don’t want to use this JustGiving website, then just send a cheque to Andrew at: 57 Rockbourne Road, Sherfield on Loddon, Hampshire, RG27 0AF. You must make the cheque payable to “The PCC of Sherfield“ and write “Organthon” on the back of the cheque, so that the church treasurer knows the funds are specifically for this event. Mike’s address is: Mike Abrams, 22 Bramley, RG26 5UE. If you’ve any questions about anything contact Andrew at ajdoggart@hotmail.com or Mike at apple321pi@hotmail.com
Thank you everyone for your support!
