Gill & Andy Meyer are fundraising to help our friends, Louise & Andy Sheead, with the build of a downstairs bedroom & wet room for their daughter, Chloe, 17, at home in Chessington,Surrey.
We are running the Richmond Half Marathon on Sunday 19th March and will be joined by our friends,Paul Brinkman,Julie Peneger, Phil Harrington & Tim Ward in fundraising on behalf of Chloe.
Gill & Louise went to college together & have been friends for over 30 years. Louise & Andy have 3 other children, Rebecca, Lewis & Amy.
For many years Chloe's Mum & Dad ( Louise & Andy ) knew something wasn't quiet right. Finally in July 2014, Chloe was diagnosed with Ehlers, Danlos Syndrome ( EDS ). EDS is a connective tissues disorder due to the body producing faulty collagen, which is basically the glue to the body.
Since then Chloe has been in & out of hospital many many times.
This causes Chloe many difficulties in her life, which means constant use of a wheelchair to get round in, due to severe pain fatigue & dislocating joints, in her body.
Chloe was totally dependent on being feed through a small tube fed into her bowel, as her stomach cannot process food, now this needs to go into her vain, incredibly painful & means Chloe is back in hospital.
This is far from ideal along with the fact that Chloe's bedroom is upstairs & she shares her bedroom with her 2 sisters, so she has no privacy & the daily issue of getting up & down the stairs, is problematic.
Also because of her age, Chloe's mum & dad receive no financial benefit or support as she is neither considered an adult or a child.
Chloe's dream is to become a nurse, she is currently studying a Level 3 diploma in health & social care, with the aim of being well enough to go to university.
Having her own downstairs bedroom & wet room will help Chloe lead a more independent life, privacy, take away the problem of the stairs & become physically strong enough to be able to fulfil her dreams.
